Safe Tyres Make for a Safer Trip

Fit the correct type of tyres to your vehicle and take good care of them.

Tyre Pressure
Tyre pressures should be checked at least weekly, and at the same time should be checked for damage, cuts, bulges, and embedded objects.
Ensure the tyres are inflated to the correct pressure, especially the rear tyres. Low tyre pressure causes excessive flexing, resulting in overheating, tyre stress and failure.
Do maintain the correct pressure for your tyre. The lower pressure means lower rolling resistance which is bad news for your engine. Under these circumstances, the car works harder and uses more fuel.
Each car comes with its own recommended tyre pressure which is generally found in the owner's manual.  Keeping your pressure a bit above the standard for your vehicle will mean you use less fuel which is better for your car.
Smooth Tyres
Smooth tyres limit road holding, especially in rainy weather, and often result in skidding and even loss of vehicle control.
Check and replace smooth tyres. The tread depth of the tyres should not be less than 1mm at any given place.

Check for the following

Camber settings

Incorrect Camber settings will result in irregular tyre wear.

Wheel Nuts

Make sure that the wheel nuts are properly tightened.

Do's and Don'ts

DO rotate your tyres on a regular basis. It's a good idea to consult with an expert about the best way to rotate the tyres for your car.

DO take your car in for a service if the tyres are showing uneven wear and tear, chances are this is related to your vehicle's steering or wheel alignment.

DO remember that space saver tyres often found in the boot of your car are temporary fixes and should not be long-term replacements for your tyres.

DO replace your tyres before they go bald and if you notice that they are wearing out at the edges then get a wheel alignment done quickly.

DON'T speed as it wears out the tyre. Your tyres will last twice as long if you travel at around 80km/h as opposed to travelling at 100 km/h.

DON'T buy at the cheap end of the tyre market; you end up compromising your own safety.
